Overview
Do I need to understand the new packaging of Intuiface 7 to understand license migration?
Absolutely! Please read about the new Intuiface 7 packaging before reviewing this FAQ.
What is license migration?
License migration is the conversion of Intuiface 6 (or older) licenses into their Intuiface 7 equivalent. This means they’ll have a new SKU and will be governed by Intuiface 7 licensing rules.
Are there any exceptions to which licenses will be migrated?
There will be no exceptions. All licenses for all products will be migrated. The resulting state and associated entitlement will differ based on the original license state. The majority of this FAQ highlights those differences.
When will license migration occur?
On the day Intuiface Version 7 launches - currently scheduled for late September - all existing licenses will be automatically migrated. There is nothing for you to do.
Will I be able to use Intuiface 6 software after migration?
Yes, Intuiface 6 software can be used with your migrated licenses. We recognize that not all in-the-field Player deployments can be easily upgraded so you will have a few months to make the switch to Intuiface 7 software.
NOTE: End-of-Support for Intuiface 6 software is scheduled for 31-Dec-2021. This means we will stop delivering bug fixes after the first of the year. Our recommendation is to upgrade Composer to Version 7 as soon as you can but to only update Player when your schedule and access permits. We've architected Intuiface 7 so that experiences created in Composer v.7 can be run in Player v.6 (with the exception of use of the new Headless CMS.)
Subscription Licenses
What will happen with my annual licenses?
- If you have at least one active annual Composer license or annual Analytics plan and one active annual Player license:
The annual Composer license or Analytics plan with the farthest renewal date and the annual Player license with a renewal date closest to - but not after - the Composer/Analytics renewal date will be transformed into a single Intuiface 7 Platform license at the same tier as the Composer license(s).
All other annual Composer and Player licenses will be migrated to their Intuiface 7 equivalent. After migration, the renewal date for all remaining annual and multi-year Players will remain unchanged. - If you have at least one active annual Composer license or annual Analytics plan and no active annual Player licenses:
The annual Composer license or Analytics plan with the farthest renewal date will be transformed into a single Intuiface 7 Platform license at the same tier as the Composer license, granting you an annual Intuiface 7 Player license as part of the Platform.
All other annual Composer licenses will be migrated to their annual Intuiface 7 equivalent. After migration, the renewal date for any multi-year Players will remain unchanged even though they extend beyond the Platform renewal date. - If you have zero active annual Composer licenses and Analytics plans and at least one active annual Player license:
All of your annual and multi-year Player licenses will be migrated to their annual Intuiface 7 equivalent. As a Player-only account, you will lose your ability to purchase additional Player licenses. Only Intuiface 7 accounts with an active Platform subscription can purchase Player licenses. You can, of course, purchase a Platform subscription at any time after migration.
Alternatively, before migration, you could consider converting your Intuiface account into a Secondary Account of another Intuiface account, assuming your team is managing multiple accounts. Classification as a Secondary account would permit you to purchase additional licenses both before and after migration.
What will the renewal cost be after annual license migration?
Renewal costs for migrated licenses will be equal to their list price at the time of purchase - i.e. renewal pricing will be grandfathered - unless the original list price is higher than the Intuiface 7 list price, in which case the Intuiface 7 list price will be used for renewal. Bottom line, you will never pay more for migrated Composer or Player licenses than you paid before migration.
Platforms created as a result of migrating a Composer and Player license will have a renewal cost of no more than the grandfathered renewal price of Composer plus the grandfathered renewal price of Player.
For accounts with Composer but no Player upon migration, the renewal cost of the resulting Platform will be the grandfathered renewal price of Composer plus the Intuiface 7 cost of Player.
For accounts using an Analytics plan to create a Platform, the grandfathered cost will be the original cost of the Analytics plan plus the grandfathered renewal cost of Player - or the cost of the equivalent Intuiface 7 Platform license if cheaper than the sum of grandfathered prices.
What will be the renewal date for all migrated annual licenses?
Renewal dates for all migrated licenses will be grandfathered and thus remain unchanged. Upon reaching their renewal date, all migrated licenses - including the Platform license - will be automatically renewed on an annual basis, even if the renewing license was originally a multi-year subscription.
What will happen to Version 6 Player licenses expiring after Version 6 Composer licenses?
Migrated licenses are exempt from the rule requiring an automatic extension of the Platform plan to match the renewal date of the latest renewing Player license. However, if the Platform plan is allowed to expire, the ongoing migrated Player licenses cannot be renewed without restarting the Platform plan and establishing renewal date alignment.
What happens to each Non-Interactive Player license?
Each Non-Interactive Player is migrated to its annual Intuiface 7 Non-Interactive Player equivalent, with a renewal price equivalent to its original purchase price.
What happens to month-to-month Composer and Player licenses?
Month-to-month Intuiface 6 licenses will be migrated to their month-to-month Intuiface 7 equivalent, with a renewal cost equal to their original purchase prices.
For creation of the Platform:
- The first month-to-month Composer and Player licenses will be combined to produce a month-to-month Platform license. The renewal cost will equal the sum of their original purchase prices.
- If the account has one or more month-to-month Composer licenses but no month-to-month Player license, a free month-to-month Intuiface 7 Player license will be granted in order to create a month-to-month Platform license. The renewal price of the Platform will equal the sum of the original month-to-month Composer purchase price plus the month-to-month Intuiface 7 Player price.
- If the account has one or more month-to-month Player licenses but no month-to-month Composer license, a free month-to-month Intuiface 7 Composer license will be granted in order to create a month-to-month Platform license. The renewal price of the Platform will equal the sum of the original month-to-month Player purchase price plus the month-to-month Intuiface 7 Composer price.
What happens to legacy Player for Tablets and Player for Kiosks licenses?
Each Player for Tablets license that has ever been activated will be migrated to an annual Intuiface 7 Player license. Its renewal cost will be 24 USD/EUR - that is, 10% of the original purchase price. (This is because Player for Tablets licenses were available in bundles of 10.)
Each Player for Kiosks license will be migrated to an annual Intuiface 7 Player license. Its renewal cost will be grandfathered, based on its original purchase price.
Perpetual Licenses
Will my perpetual licenses be migrated to Intuiface 7?
It depends and is contingent on whether you have Active MSU coverage. See the following questions for details.
Can perpetual licenses be used to run Intuiface 7 software?
No, perpetual licenses - which haven't been sold since 2017 - are limited to running Intuiface 6 software and thus cannot be used to run Intuiface 7 software. However, Intuiface 6 software can be used to open, edit, and play Intuiface 7 experiences if those experiences were 1) created then shared by a separate Intuiface account with an Intuiface 7 Platform plan, and 2) do not contain any newly introduced Intuiface 7 features like the Headless CMS.
Let's start with perpetual Player licenses. What happens to them?
All perpetual Players - aside from the one that may have been used to create a Platform plan - will be transitioned into what is called an Intuiface 7 Perpetual state. This means they will be able to run Intuiface 6 and Intuiface 7 experiences, but those Intuiface 7 experiences cannot contain features introduced with Version 7, like the Headless CMS.
Is there any way to convert perpetual Player licenses into Intuiface 7 licenses?
With the possession of an active Platform plan - created either via migration or via purchase (see next sections) - accounts will be entitled to convert perpetual Player licenses into annual Intuiface 7 Player licenses at a cost of 20% of the original perpetual license cost. This discounted conversion rate will be available through the end of 2021. After 31-Dec-2021, discounted migration from perpetual Player licenses to Intuiface 7 annual Player licenses will not be possible and new licenses will have to be purchased at full price.
For example, before the end of 2021, a perpetual Player license purchased for 480 USD can be migrated to an annual Intuiface 7 Player license that will cost 96 USD and will be renewed at that same amount.
What happens to perpetual Composer licenses with active MSU?
All perpetual Composer licenses with active MSU - with one exception - will be migrated to annual Intuiface 7 Composer licenses.
The Composer with the latest renewing MSU will be combined with the annual Player license in your account with a renewal date closest to - but not after - the Composer MSU renewal date to create an Intuiface 7 Enterprise Platform plan. (Recall that all Platform plans include one Composer and one Player license.)
If no annual Players are in your account, you will be granted a free annual Intuiface 7 Player license to create the Platform.
After migration of perpetual Composer licenses with active MSU, what will be my renewal cost?
The Platform renewal cost will equal your Composer's MSU cost plus the cost of the converted Player, which in all cases will be cheaper than the list price for annual Platform Enterprise:
- If an annual Player was converted for the Platform
The renewal cost of this Player is equivalent to its original purchase price. - If you had no annual Players
The renewal cost of the free Player is equivalent to the Intuiface 7 annual Player price.
The renewal cost for every other Composer with active MSU migrated to annual Intuiface 7 Composer will be its MSU cost.
What happens to perpetual Composer licenses without active MSU?
If an account only has perpetual Composer licenses without active MSU, those licenses will be transitioned into what is called an Intuiface 7 Perpetual state, meaning they will be limited to running Intuiface 6 software. This means they will be able to edit Intuiface 6 and Intuiface 7 experiences, but those Intuiface 7 experiences 1) must have been created then shared by a separate Intuiface account with an Intuiface 7 Platform plan, and 2) cannot contain features introduced with Version 7, like the Headless CMS.
These perpetually licensed accounts will also not be entitled to use any of the new services bundled into the Intuiface Cloud, such as Analytics and the Headless CMS.
To use Intuiface 7 software, you must purchase a Platform plan. There is no way to directly convert Composer licenses without active MSU into Intuiface 7 annual Composer licenses.
End of Support for Intuiface 6
What's this about End-of-Support for Intuiface 6?
Starting on 1-Jan-2022, Intuiface will no longer provide bug fixes or feature enhancements for Intuiface 6 Composer or Player. You may continue to use Intuiface 6 software if required by your project(s), but no further product improvements can be expected.
Can I use Intuiface 7 Composer with Intuiface 6 Player?
Good question! Yes, experiences built or edited using Intuiface 7 Composer will run in Intuiface 6 Player. As a result, the only reason to continue using Intuiface 6 Composer after Intuiface 7 launches is if you have perpetual Composer licenses without active MSU.
How long do I have to migrate my Intuiface 6 projects to Intuiface 7?
- Composer: Our advice is to migrate to Intuiface 7 Composer as soon as it launches. Again, experiences built/edited using Composer 7 can be run in Player 6.
- Player: We encourage migration as soon as your project timeline and deployment access permit. Starting on 1-Jan-2022, Intuiface will no longer enhance or correct Player 6. Meanwhile, improvements will be ongoing in Player 7.
Analytics
What happens to my Analytics plan during migration?
As noted above, Analytics plans can be used to create the Platform license during migration. However, even if not used for migration, Analytics ceases to be a separately priced and purchased feature in Intuiface 7. Rather, it will be bundled with a Platform purchase and will have a feature set determined by the Intuiface 7 Platform plan. As a result, following migration, there will be no further Analytics renewal cost.
