NOTE: Player self-licensing is only available for Enterprise-level Intuiface accounts.
Exclusively for Windows PCs, Intuiface users have a variety of options for simplifying the licensing of Player and Player Classic across multiple devices. These options are:
- Batch License Activation: Either enter device and Player information in an online form or upload a csv file containing this information. Batch license activation is also available for Player on BrightSign.
- Credential Key License Activation: Suitable for manual licensing of multiple Players as it uses a single, identical key.
- Hands-free License Activation: (exclusive to Player Classic) Suitable for use with an imaged Windows PC that will be rolled out to any number of computers.
In all cases, if a license is not available, Player will display a pop-up message indicating failure to retrieve a license. Dismissing this window will close Player.
Batch License Activation
This licensing approach is detailed in a separate Help Center article.
Credential Key License Activation
The advantage of this option is the person installing Player or Player Classic does not need to know either the Intuiface account login credentials or individual license keys. A single credential key can be used on any number of Windows PCs that will be used to run Player/Player Classic.
Step One: Obtain your account's Hands-Free Licensing credential key
Open the Credential Keys page in a Web browser. Here, you have the option of copying an existing Hands-Free Licensing credential key or creating and then copying a new credential key.
See our article about credential key management if you wish to create a new key.
Step Two: Enter the credential key into Player
Take the credential key from Step One and paste it into the "Credential Key" field at the bottom of the Player or Player Classic login panel. Then click the "Log In" button.
Any available Player license will be automatically checked out.
Hands-Free License Activation
NOTE: This licensing option is only available with Player Classic.
A common solution for large-scale software deployments is to create an image of a correctly configured PC and then install that OS image across multiple devices. Under normal licensing circumstances, this approach would be a challenge for Intuiface because although automated license retrieval is supported, it only occurs after a manual login.
Player Classic has the unique ability to support automated license retrieval without requiring manual login.
Enabling Self-Licensing
- Install Intuiface Player Classic if you haven't done so already.
- If Player was already installed, and was run at least once:
- in the folder
C:\ProgramData\IntuiLab\Intuiface\Player
delete both files license.ipl and intuiface.dat
- in the folder
- Open the Credential Keys page in a Web browser.
- Generate a "Hands-Free Licensing" key if you don't already have one.
- In the section for your Hands-Free Licensing key is a file named Hands-FreeLicensing.ifc. Download this file.
- Place the downloaded file Hands-FreeLicensing.ifc into the folder
C:\Users\Public\Documents
. - Create an OS image.
- Deploy your OS image to one PC and verify that everything is working as intended.
- Deploy that image to all other PCs
Each instance of Player Classic, when run, will now be able to request a license without first requiring someone to log into an Intuiface account. This approach is infinitely scalable, limited only by the number of licenses available in your Intuiface account.
Preloading Experiences Before Deployment
This hands-free licensing approach can include preloading an Intuiface experience. By doing so, your first use of Management Console for automated experience deployment would not have to push the entire project over the Internet.
Imagine a 1GB project and a deployment of 300 Players. The original deployment of that huge project via Management Console to 300 Players would take an extremely long time to complete. If the 1GB project was preloaded by Player before the creation of the OS image, all 300 devices would have the 1GB project already installed before using the Management Console.
Here is the process:
- Install Player Classic and license it.
- Optionally configure the Windows PC to automatically restart Player after a PC reboot.
- Use Player Classic to download the published experience you intend to deploy.
- Run the experience to verify that everything is in working order then shut down Player Classic.
C:\Users\Public\Documents
. -
Delete the file
C:\ProgramData\IntuiLab\Intuiface\Player\license.ipl
-
Delete the file
C:\ProgramData\IntuiLab\Intuiface\intuiface.dat
- Create an OS image.
- Install that OS image on one PC and verify that everything is working as intended.
- Install that image on all other targeted PCs
