Remote actions enable the remote control of Intuiface experiences over a network (Ethernet or Wi-Fi) using the HTTP protocol. Remote actions can be associated with any asset type in Composer but can also be triggered by any third-party application or device.
NOTE: This feature is only available in Player Classic.
Prerequisite for Windows devices
In order to receive Remote Actions on a Windows-based machine, you must first use the Intuiface Configuration Tool to enable external communication with Intuiface. See this article for more details.
General principles
Intuiface enables the local control of experience content through different types of triggers. These triggers in turn can launch a wide variety of actions.
All existing actions can be triggered remotely either from an experience running on another device (in either Composer or Player) or from any third-party application or device.
To specify the experience targeted with a remote action, all you need to know is:
- Sending messages from a Windows PC
- the name of the target experience
OR - the name of the computer the experience is running on
- the name of the target experience
- Sending messages from any OS, including Windows
- the IP address of the Windows Player running the targeted experience
It is also possible to trigger remote actions in several experiences simultaneously from the same source - that is, either from another experience or from a third-party application or device. This enables action synchronization between experiences, such as advancing all experiences at once to the same scene.
Triggering remote actions using Composer
For more details about creating remote actions using Composer, see this dedicated page.
Triggering remote actions using third-party applications or devices
Devices and third-party applications on the same device or local network can communicate with the experience running in Player using local network triggers.
Devices and third-party applications in the cloud can communicate with any experience running in Player on any networked device using Web triggers.
Limitations
- Only one instance of Player or Composer will be able to receive remote actions on a single device. Any additional instances of Player or Composer on the same device will not be able to receive remote actions.
- Remote Actions are not supported for Intuiface Player running on iOS (iPad)
- Assets or Collections nested inside an Experience Layer, cannot be targeted by remote actions
