Overview
This article will explain how to run Intuiface Player on a Google Chrome device. Once Player is running, the user experience is identical to that of Player on all other supported platforms. If you are already familiar with how to use Player on those platforms then you can go from a published Intuiface experience to running it on the Chrome device in seconds. If you are new to Intuiface, hang in there - it's easy!
For customers with Player licenses purchased before 15-May-2019: Chrome requires the Player for Kiosks license.
Supported Hardware
The Chrome OS Player is available in the Chrome Web Store for all Chrome OS devices, including
- Chromebook: laptops suitable for use by a sales force or students
- Chromebox: combined with a large touch display, it is a cost-efficient interactive digital signage device
- Chromebase: all-in-one devices you can easily use as an interactive kiosk
We are using AOpen Chromebox and Chromebase commercial to run our tests on Chrome OS
Installing Intuiface Player as a Chrome Kiosk App
There are 3 different methods for installing Intuiface Player on a Chrome device. The appropriate option mainly depends upon whether you plan to use Google's Chrome Device Management (CDM) feature. For information about Chrome device management, see this Google article.
For the sake of simplicity and reliability, Intuiface recommends the use of Chrome Device Management to handle Player deployment and monitoring on Chrome OS devices. (For experience deployment and monitoring, you still need to use Management Console.)
On a device managed by Chrome Device Management
If you have Chrome Device Management licenses for each of your Chrome devices, you can use Manage Device Settings in Device Management's Admin console to configure your organization's Chrome devices as a kiosk running Intuiface Player
-
Click on Manage Kiosk Applications to add Intuiface Player
-
Search for Intuiface or type our App ID: hhmjhgoapkbmlfllpjfnafpdmhibcbli
-
Click on Add then close the panel.
-
Set Intuiface Player in the Auto-Launch Kiosk App option
-
Check the User Data property is set to
Do not erase all local user data
-
Save your changes.
Your device settings are ready. Now you just need to enroll each of your Chrome devices in your organization. This will cause Intuiface Player to auto-run whenever those devices are powered on.
Log in using your Intuiface credentials the first time you run it, and select an experience to start.

On a non-managed device
For production / test phase
This is the easiest way to install Intuiface Player on a Chrome device:
- Open the Chrome Web Store and search for Intuiface, or click this link.
- Click on the ADD TO CHROME button.
When installed, click on the Intuiface Player icon to launch the application. With this kind of setup, Player will go fullscreen. A user will be able to exit it using the Escape button of either a physical or virtual keyboard.
Don't forget to disable the on-screen keyboard
Because Intuiface Player embeds its own virtual keyboard, you have to disable the on-screen keyboard of Chrome OS. Here are the instructions:
- Sign in to your Chromebook.
- Touch or click the status area, where your account picture appears.
- Touch or click Settings > Show advanced settings.
- Under "Accessibility," uncheck Enable on-screen keyboard.
For the deployment phase, using Kiosk Mode
Even if not using Chrome Device Management, you can still run your Chrome device in Kiosk mode. Here are the steps:
-
If you are installing Intuiface Player on a non-managed device that has already been used then we strongly recommend that you first wipe the device. Wiping the device will delete any data stored on it that has not been synced with Google Chrome Sync. Device-specific instructions on how to do this can be found here in Google's knowledge base. If you are using a brand new, unused Chrome device you should be able to skip this step.
-
Turn on your new or freshly-wiped Chrome device. The device will ask you to configure your location, keyboard layout, and network settings. Once this has been done the login screen will appear.
-
Before logging in or creating a new Google account, use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Alt+K at the login screen to open the Automatic Kiosk Mode window. Select "Enable" in the dialog box to enable your device to run kiosk-capable apps.
-
With kiosk mode enabled, log in to the Chrome device. If you do not have an existing Google account then create a new one.
-
Open a new tab in Chrome and enter chrome://extensions in the address bar.
-
Check the box next to Developer Mode.
-
Click Manage Kiosk Applications. In the window that opens, copy and paste the application ID hhmjhgoapkbmlfllpjfnafpdmhibcbli into the Add kiosk application field. Click Add to install the application.
- Tip: Open this Knowledge Base article in a different browser tab then copy the application ID and paste it into the Add kiosk application field.
- Tip: Open this Knowledge Base article in a different browser tab then copy the application ID and paste it into the Add kiosk application field.
-
With the Manage Kiosk Applications window still open, select the Intuiface Player application and click Set to auto launch.
-
Leave Permanently keep this device in kiosk mode unchecked and click Done to close the dialogue window.
-
Sign-out of the device and a dialogue prompt will open requesting permission to auto-start Intuiface Player when the device turns on. Click Confirm to permit Intuiface Player to auto-start.
-
Intuiface Player will now start automatically. Log in using your Intuiface credentials and select the experience to play on this device.
Player activation (aka assigning a license)
Assigning a license
Player activation is the process used to associate Player with an Intuiface account and - if available - a paid license. The activation mechanism has been designed to account for very large scale and highly variable deployments.
Choose any of the multiple Player activation options available for use.
NOTE:
- When a license expires it is released automatically. Player will then attempt to request a new license the next time it is run.
- If no active Platform plan/license is available, Player will not run.
License checkout order
If permitting Intuiface to automatically assign a license, such as when logging into Player, the oldest available license (based on the original purchase date) with the longest subscription duration will be selected.
